Learning to Show Up!!
We all at some point in time have either said this to someone or someone has said this to us. What does it really mean to show up? to show up no matter what. It is very simple at the same time very difficult to execute the act of showing up. Simple because it's just plain as it sounds; to get up and do what needs to be done nothing more and nothing less! And difficult because it isn't as easy as it sounds.
This is my understanding of what showing up means. As I started working on myself I realized that the act of showing up comes with a lot of "Responsibility" towards yourself as well as the life you wish to create. We cannot show up if we don't take accountability of our life. Every single day we choose our actions. Actions that will either empower us or will drain us. Actions that will lead us towards the life we all wish to create or the one that doesn't align with us. When I say we choose, which means we want to, or technically it is our responsibility to make that choice everyday! Showing up for the life we wish to create needs a lot of consistency and commitment from our end. That is when we see the outcomes we wish to see.
This showing up isn't like one day I made a choice and that's it, it's done!! It means no matter what my mind says to me. What excuses it is trying to give me to keep me from doing what needs to be done. Trust me our mind is sly enough to create stories that we can tell ourselves for the rest of our lives. Some of the stories are so realistic in our head that we feel this is it!! this is why I cannot do a particular thing but, mind you when I say stories it also means it is scripted; it also means a part of me has fed the narrative to create the story. And a part of me also keeps feeding the narrative everyday with the choices I make, so that the story continues. So the eventual outcome is me doing the same old things the same old way; that gives me the same old results. Now you must be thinking how is this story related to me showing up for myself? But trust me this story is what makes a difference.
Once we start to show up for ourself all of these narratives, stories, patterns, fears will try to cloud our mind and judgement. Here comes the "Awareness" of the fact that my mind is going to play around with me and in spite of all the things my mind does I'm still going to choose what I need to do. It could be as simple as getting up at a certain time, or learning a new skill, or doing your exercise everyday. No matter how much resistance my mind creates or my body creates I'll still show up for the actions I feel will change my life. The actions might not always be doing something big it might be a very small activity that we choose to do every single day of our life no matter what. It's the 'Commitment and Discipline' that we have for ourself and our life. Build a practice that will support you when resistance shows up. It could be meditating, breathing, chanting, following affirmations. Every single time your mind plays a trick use your practice. Abuse your practice so much that it eventually gives you results. You must be wondering why is she saying abuse your practice, why not? we abuse so many things that are not good for us why not abuse things that are good for us? When you show up for yourself, so will your life show up for you eventually. It's not the other way round when one fine day you feel motivated enough to take that step. That day never comes!! It's doing it no matter what that's when things start falling in place.
It's a process of Becoming. It's a process of evolving and mind you, it's a continues process. It's a process that shouldn't look like a task, it's something that you do for yourself with a lot of joy in it!! Let's learn to show up for ourselves so that eventually tomorrow we become strong enough to show up for the world around us!!
Love and Light to all.
